Check privacy policies on 'Dear Santa' websites
More than 60 domain names have been registered in the name of Santa Claus offering kids a wide range of opportunities to email Santa.
Sue McConnell of the Cleveland Better Business Bureau says you need to be careful that you are not giving out personal information.
She advises parents to check the website to see who is seeking the information, how it will be used, and whether it will be shared with third parties.
Also never give out your address. "Santa already knows where all the children live," says McConnell. If you do, you may be putting your child at risk for identity theft.
Usually the only information needed to participate is a first name and email address. To protect against spam, and viruses you can set up a free email address just to use on that site.
There also may be hyperlinks on the site. Check to see that it doesn't direct the child towards inappropriate content.
